Rainbird is an award-winning intelligent automation platform. It enables businesses to scale knowledge and rapidly automate complex decision-making. Rainbird has grown quickly and is recognised as one of the most important technologies in the AI and automation fields.

The Rainbird team first came to Anglia Capital Group in 2015. Although they were at an early stage in their business they impressed the Angels with their clear vision and were successful in securing a total of £330,000, including some co-investment from our partner co-investment fund, New Anglia Capital.

Rainbird has gone from strength to strength over the last 8 years and now has over 40 members of staff. It recently launched two major new pieces of functionality for it’s customers: a drag-and-drop workflow builder that enables users to integrate decision automation capabilities into any automated process and a powerful automated machine learning (AutoML) technology that enables non-data scientists to design powerful AI models from data that can be integrated into Rainbird’s decisioning platform, delivering a combination of prediction plus judgement. A rapid response to COVID
At the start of the pandemic, Rainbird took the decision to support UK businesses, to solve some COVID related challenges. They worked with some banks around financial forbearance in relation to mortgage holidays which were being offered to help customers manage their finances during the pandemic.

Rainbird also did a lot of work with the NHS during this time. It was approached by several NHS Trusts who were dealing with issues around clinicians who were unsure whether or not they needed to isolate. To help solve this problem Rainbird built a tool to enable anyone to talk to a Rainbird powered tool to get contextual advice based on their circumstances. The tool would then tell them exactly what to do and when to come back and check the tool again. It was also able to automatically email their manager to tell them there were not going to be in and then, when it was available, it would automatically book in testing. This tool was built in just 72 hours.

Following that, Rainbird was approached again about frontline workers who needed to be risk assessed. At that time NHS England had mandated that everyone deemed to be at high risk needed to have a risk assessment. Rainbird was asked to build a tool which understood everything about the factors which impacted COVID such as age and comorbidities. Working alongside Dr Robert Hardman, a leading clinician in the field, the Rainbird team built a model in just 6 hours. It then went from idea to live in 8 days. The tool was able to risk assess 1000s of staff an hour to make decisions about their risk without having to discuss personal medical issues with their line manager.

“The energy around intelligent automation has never felt quite as tactile as it does now – organisations have really stepped up and begun to realise the investments they need to make, the change they need to implement and the technologies that will help them get there. I’m very grateful for the support Anglia Capital Group has given us and for playing such an invaluable role in our journey” James Duez, CEO, Rainbird.
